Vegan Garlicky Mashed Potatoes are the perfect side dish for a roast dinner or vegan sausages. Get the recipe below.

Mashed potatoes are a classic British side dish often served with roasted meats or sausages. This recipe is a plant based alternative to mashed potatoes that will work alongside any vegan roast meat substitute or a vegan sausage or two!
These vegan mashed potatoes are fluffy and full of flavour thanks to the roasted garlic and chives. Vegan butter and plant-milk help to give them the velvety texture we all love.

Equipment
You’ll need the following kitchen equipment
- Chopping board
- Knife
- Vegetable peeler
- Tinfoil
- Saucepan
- Colander
- Potato masher
- Spoon
Storage
You can make mashed potato ahead of time and store it in the fridge for a few days but be cautious you may need to add more vegan butter or plant milk to bring it back to the right consistency.

Top tip
To get the smoothest mash potato use a potato ricer instead of a potato masher. Potato ricers have much smaller holes forcing the potato through even finer than you get with a masher.
Frequently asked questions
Some of the best varieties for mashed potatoes are Russet, Maris Piper, King Edward and Yukon Golden.
No, for this recipe either will work fine.
I often use oat milk because of its neutral flavour. For this reason soy milk also works well. I avoid nut milks as find their nuttier, sweeter taste doesn’t work so well with the garlic and chive.
